ESAFETY SUPPORT
The eSafety initiative brings together the European Commission, public authorities,
industry and other stakeholders in a drive to accelerate the development, deployment
and use of eSafety systems. The main aim is to contribute to the European Commission’s 2001
goal of halving the number of fatalities on Europe’s roads by 2010. For

ERTICO

CARE
CARE is a Community database on road accidents resulting in death or injury
(no statistics on damage - only accidents). The purpose of CARE system is to provide a powerful tool which
would make it possible to identify and quantify road safety problems throughout the European roads,
evaluate the efficiency of road safety measures, determine the relevance of Community actions and
facilitate the exchange of experience in this field. The Council decided on 30 November 1993 the creation of
a Community database on road accidents (Council Decision 93/704/EC, Oj No L329 of 30.12.1993, pp. 63-65).

PREVENT
The Integrated Project PReVENT is a European automotive industry activity co-funded by the European
Commission to contribute to road safety by developing and demonstrating preventive safety applications and
technologies.

The objective of the AWAKE project is to increase traffic safety by reducing the number and the

APSN
The aim of APSN Network of Excellence is to mobilise the European scientific & business expertise in Vehicle
Passive Safety to accelerate improvements in road safety in order to reduce the annual road victims for the
European Union. APSN joint technical and scientific objective is to enhance the level of road safety at
affordable costs for the individual user as well as for the European society.

SAFE-U
Development of an innovative sensor platform that will operate three different technologies (24 GHz radar, IR and video cameras) and will fuse data for an optimised Vulnerable Road User (VRU) detection. Definition and implementation of driver warning and vehicle control strategies to avoid, or at least minimise, the impact of a crash.Definition of active VRU protection strategies in case the crash cannot be avoided. Performance evaluation of the sensors platform and of the effective impact of the overall system.
